At 2:35AM on Monday, the biggest disappointment of the Yankees’ season was pulled over in Florida because “no headlights were illuminated at night,” according to the police report. The officers subsequently breathalyzed Michael Pineda, who blew a .128 blood-alcohol content, well above the legal limit of .08. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol by Tampa authorities.
Since the Yankees basically swapped Jesus Montero for Pineda in February, the hefty righty has shown up to spring training overweight, lost nearly five miles of velocity on his fastball, and been shut down for the season after having shoulder surgery. Now he’s shown up in a police blotter. The more Pineda makes the news as a Yankee, the less there is to like.
